We Are Brothers and Sisters

Day 1
26th Tuesday in ordinary time, 1 October 2024
Feast : St. Therese of the Child Jesus, Patron Saint of Mission

Reading : Isa. 66:10-14c
Gospel : Matt. 18:1-5

“And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.”
(Matthew 18:5)

In today’s Gospel, the disciples of Jesus asked a question of who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. In responding to this question, Jesus called a child and said, “Unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.”

Jesus teaches us to humble ourselves and be like a child – modest, sincere, and full of love. This is in line with Pope Francis’ message in the 2024 World Mission Day, where he emphasized the importance of seeing everybody as brothers and sisters. In a world torn apart by divisions, Pope invited us to break down the barrier that blocks us and build a relationship of fraternity.

Pope reminds us that the mission of the church is to love unconditionally and welcome everybody with joy, generosity, and kindness. Nothing is too small or less important in the Kingdom of God. Each of us, from the smallest to the highest, is brother and sister in Christ.

During the month of the Rosary, let us reflect on the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who humbly receives God’s will. In her humility and obedience, Mary is our model in embracing others as brothers and sisters.

Just as Mary accepted the great task of being the Mother of Jesus with an open heart, we are also called to welcome everyone, whom God brings into our lives, with the same love and acceptance. Through Rosary prayer, we reflect on the mysteries of Christ and Mary’s life, and we learn to live with a spirit of service and unconditional love.

On the first day of the month of Rosary, let us commit to living as brothers and sisters to our neighbors, especially those in need, people with disability, and the weak. Let us humbly imitate the child who has full trust, and with love welcomes everyone in a true spirit of brotherhood. May the Rosary help us, together with Mary, become closer to God and inspire us to continue living the mission of proclaiming the Kingdom of God by loving, serving, and welcoming everyone as brothers in Christ.

Our mission today: embrace and respect everybody, especially the small, weak, poor, marginalized, and people with disabilities.

DAILY DEDICATED PRAYER

Lord, our Father, I present my today prayer, thought, word, work, joy and sorrow in the unity with Your Son, Jesus Christ, who always presents Himself in the Eucharist for the salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit animating Jesus, also be my guidance and strength today so that I am ready to be the witness of Your love.

Together with Mary, Mother of Jesus, and the Church, in particular, I present my prayer for our Pope and apostle prayer of the Indonesian Church this month:

Universal Church Intent: For a shared mission
We pray that the Church continues to sustain in all ways a Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion, and the mission shared among priests, religious, and lay people.

Indonesian Church Intent: Health Institution
We pray that Health Institutions, both government and private, prioritize patient recovery and safety above the medical industry’s interest, and provide wholehearted service without discriminating socio-economic status.

MISSIONARY ROSARY PRAYER

God Almighty Father,
Your Son has appointed the Bishops as the successors of the Apostles to proclaim the Kingdom of God to grant salvation to humans. In the celebration of the 100th year of The Bishop’s Conference of Indonesia, the Catholics in Indonesia are grateful for the work of Your Holy Spirit, who has guided the Bishops and the faithful to walk together in building the Church and nation. We pray that with this celebration, Catholic churches in Indonesia will be more united and become a sign of the presence of Your love for others, especially those who are small, weak, poor, marginalized, and disabled. In the light of Your love, we pray that the church will be bolder in becoming the main mover to building true brotherhood and preserving the integrity of creation and commonwealth. With Mary, mother of all nations and model of faith, we unite all prayers and hopes. Through the intercession of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Lord, and our Intercessor.
Amen
