Mission: Glorify God, Respect Human’s Dignity

“And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?”
(Luk. 13:16)

Apostolic Letter Patris Corde: That truth always presents itself to us like the merciful father in Jesus’ parable (cf. Lk 15:11-32). It comes out to meet us, restores our dignity, sets us back on our feet and rejoices for us, for, as the father says: “This my son was dead and is alive again, he was lost and is found” (v. 24)

The Evangelist Luke told of Jesus encountering a woman who had suffered for eighteen years. She was crippled by a spirit that made her body bend over and was unable to stand up straight. Having such body shape and bent bone, she could not see straight ahead or up, not even be able to do stretching for comforting her body. She was imprisoned in pain and helplessness, unable to free herself. Her dignity was taken by the spirit.

When Jesus saw her, He called and talked to her, and laid His hands on her. Encountering with Jesus is always begun by Jesus seeing. It can be Jesus seeing us, or we see Him first, come to Him and call Him. Whatever the encountering scene, when Jesus sees humans, He will be touched, then take action!

The anonymous and marginalized woman is now given a seat and noticed. Jesus comes to stand us up, to make us “upright”, to raise our dignity and life. Jesus “seeing” that woman was not a chance seeing, but a sight of mercy, a sight of saving.

Did Jesus forget that it was Sabbath day? Of course not. Without thinking twice and no worry of the surrounding response, Jesus set the woman free. Why? Because the essence of Sabbath is the day of deliverance, the salvation promised to all Abraham’s descendants.

Jesus did not only heal the woman’s physical illness, but also her dignity. From being satan’s bondage, she became a free descendant of Abraham. Her recovery made the entire crowd rejoice to glorify God.

Jesus was rebuked by the leader of the synagogue. The Jews was not allowed to do activity on the Sabbath day, not even to heal the sick. Isn’t it ironic? The Sabbath day is for glorifying God. But healing the woman is not considered as a deed of glorifying God. Jesus rebuked this kind of thinking. Jesus pointed out how the Jews treated their livestock and humans. They took their ox and donkeys from the manger and led them away to give them water on the Sabbath day. They cared for their livestock, but not for the sick woman. They neglected her dignity.

Humans frequently act improperly. Law is just treated as a concept without applying it into real life. Jesus wants to teach us to apply the words of “glorifying the Lord” instead of a lip service. When we care about others’ suffering and respect their dignity in our daily deed and attitude, we have realized “the Sabbath” in our life.

We may see injustices around us. Humans’ dignity is neglected, unfair treatment on gender and social status, the ignorance to the poor, the needy and suffering. We will see people like the crippled woman, bound by the evil, unable to raise themselves from the sin taking away their dignity of the Lord’s children. They need our help. We can imitate Jesus and St. Joseph in defending the dignity of humans.

Mission: As the children of the Lord, we are called to true freedom, free from the bondage of sin and fear. This call is realized by glorifying the Lord, by respecting human dignity. (BIL)

JOYFUL MYSTERIES

  1. The Annunciation of the Angel to Mary
“Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.” (Luke 1:28b,30b-31)

Prayer is intended for the continent of Asia (yellow beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we come before You, asking for Your grace on our lives, our future, especially for our continent we are living in, the Continent of Asia. Send Your angels as You sent the Angel Gabriel to proclaim the good news of the birth of Your Son to Mother Mary. Enable us to be always grateful for the life You have granted and to rejoice in carrying out the mission that You give to each of us, so that we can be the witnesses of Your joyful tidings, like the Angel Gabriel. May Your joy fill the earth. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The visitation of Mary to Saint Elizabeth
“Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 1:42-43)

Prayer is intended for the Continent of Australia and Oceania (blue beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray especially for the Australia Continent and Oceania. When Mary visited Elizabeth, she came with love and good news about the coming of the Savior. The meeting eventually became the blessing for both babies in their wombs, and also for the coming mother. We also hope that You would come to visit your people in the Oceania-Australia Continent. Fill the heart of Your people in this continent with hope, so they can give strength and share the good news to each other, especially during the pandemic. And may Your people in this continent be able to take care of each other, as You have always been protecting us. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The nativity of Jesus in Bethlehem
“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)

Prayer is intended for the Continent of Europe (white beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we want to present the Continent of Europe. Just like Mary and Joseph could not find a room in the inn, many of our brothers and sisters are currently stranded in adversities and helplessness. Cover this continent which has been experiencing a lot of loss and temptation with your blanket of love that are able to warm every soul. Prepare a safe shelter for all the needs. Shower your grace of joy in everyone’s heart so that every mouth can praise Your name as the God, the source of life and eternal joy. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

  1. The presentation of Jesus to the Temple
Simeon said unto Mary, “Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against. Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul.” (Luke 2:34-35)

Prayer is intended for the continent of America (red beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray especially for the continent of America. We present this continent before You as the Baby Jesus was presented to You in the Temple. May the continent of America and the people living in there be renewed with Your Spirit. Grow the sense of solidarity, mercy, brotherhood and unity among them. Keep them away from arrogance, selfishness and the desire to dominate others. Enable this continent to build the pillars of prosperity for all creations and bring peace to the world, so that cheers of joy may echo throughout the world. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

Prayer is intended for the continent of Africa (green beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray especially for our brothers and sisters in the continent of Africa. May every longing soul will find You in their seeking of You. For those who are lost and far from You due to suffering and adversities, may they be able to find the way back to you. Guide and bless every step so they may have strength, light of hope and joy of life. Teach every person to always lean on Your will and plan. Make them all Your living witnesses so Your name may be glorified and more souls could be saved. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.
