God Loves Without Limit

Day 10
27th Thursday in ordinary time, 10 October 2024
Feast St. Daniel et al; St. Paulinus of York

Reading : Gal. 3:1-5
Gospel : Luk. 11:5-13

“If you then, who are wicked , know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
(Luke 11:13)

In his message for World Mission Day 2024, Pope Francis said that Mission, we see, is a tireless going out to all men and women, to invite them to encounter God and enter into communion with Him. Tireless! God, great in love and rich in mercy, constantly sets out to encounter all men and women and to call them to the happiness of His kingdom, even in the face of their indifference or refusal.

Missionaries tirelessly leave for distant places, even to unknown places, leaving their homeland, to proclaim God to people who are new or don’t know Jesus at all. This missionary spirit, self-giving up and the great power of love come from God Himself, who constantly calls everyone, despite of their refusal and indifference. God never gets tired of calling. This is the proof of God’s infinite love for humans.

This kind of love from God in today’s second reading is described as that the Father will “give to everyone who asks, and open the door to those who knock.” It is necessary and important for us to keep in mind that God’s mercy is not just for savor, but it has to be shared with others. A common term to say about someone who responds to a person’s kindness received by being kind to someone else is “Pay It Forward.” Love does not stop at oneself or is asked back as a return, but God’s love that we receive must be forwarded and shared with others for others to feel God’s love through us.

One of Pope Francis’ quotes about the meaning of mercy is: Mercy means believing in the Father’s infinite love and that means daring to share (Vatican News). The subject of mercy can be found in almost all parts of the Scripture. God never gets tired of speaking about mercy. He even shows concretely what the manifestation of mercy looks like by healing, making miracles and ultimately He shows His greatest mercy on the cross. The Son of the King, the Son of God,is willing to give His life up to save humans who sometimes are not worthy of help, and often ignore and reject Him.

Have we truly experienced God’s infinite love for us? Have we expressed our gratitude to the gift of Jesus on the cross in our daily attitudes and behavior? Or do we still calculate the pros and cons when we are asked to help others who are in trouble and suffer or be present for the lonely and abandoned? Is God’s unlimited love that we have received at no cost, truly reflected in ourself and deed? Or are we still included in the group that God calls “Woe” – the hypocrites who fool people with long prayers? (cf. Matt. 23:14).

Today’s mission: reflecting God’s infinite love.

DAILY DEDICATED PRAYER

Lord, our Father, I present my today prayer, thought, word, work, joy, and sorrow in the unity with Your Son, Jesus Christ, who always presents Himself in the Eucharist for the salvation of the world. May the Holy Spirit animating Jesus, also be my guidance and strength today so that I am ready to be the witness of Your love.

Together with Mary, Mother of Jesus, and the Church, in particular, I present my prayer for our Pope and apostle prayer of the Indonesian Church this month:

Universal Church Intent: For a shared mission
We pray that the Church continues to sustain in all ways a Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion, and the mission shared among priests, religious, and lay people.

Indonesian Church Intent: Health Institution
We pray that Health Institutions, both government and private, prioritize patient recovery and safety above the medical industry’s interest, and provide wholehearted service without discriminating socio-economic status.

MISSIONARY ROSARY PRAYER

God Almighty Father,
Your Son has appointed the Bishops as the successors of the Apostles to proclaim the Kingdom of God to grant salvation to humans. In the celebration of the 100th year of The Bishop’s Conference of Indonesia, the Catholics in Indonesia are grateful for the work of Your Holy Spirit, who has guided the Bishops and the faithful to walk together in building the Church and nation.
