Mission: Mercy Is The Sign of Living Faith

“He answered, ‘The one who treated him with mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.'”
(Luke 10:37)

Apostolic Letter of Patris Corde: That is why it is so important to encounter God’s mercy, especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where we experience his truth and tenderness.

Friends of missionary,
This is about the dialogue with Jesus. Mercy is the fruit of encountering with Jesus. There are two contrasting personalities that will be told in today’s reflection. The first one is the scholar of the law meeting with Jesus. The second one is Francis of Assisi who was changed by Jesus. Story of the scholar of the law has been told in the Gospel. The story of Francis of Assisi is selected as today we commemorate him as the Saint of Confessor of the Faith.

The scholar of the law met Jesus and tested Him. His question seemed good, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered by asking and justifying his answer: to love the Lord with all your heart, with all your being, with all our strength and with all your mind. We become neighbor to others when we can share in their adversities and concerns, and help them.

Francis came from Assisi. He was the son of a wealthy cloth merchant. He was renowned for drinking and partying in his youth. At the age of 20, he joined the battle against Perugia. He was captured and imprisoned. During his sickness, he made close relationship to the Lord. He had a spiritual experience. His encountering the Lord had changed his entire life. When praying at San Damiano Church he heard the voice of the Lord, “Francis, repair My ruining church.” He then sold his father’s clothes and used the money to rebuild San Damiano Church, and the rest of the money was shared to the poor. After knowing this, his father was very angry and threatened him. Eventually Francis gave up all his property including the cloth he wore to his father. Francis left his parents. He dedicated himself to serve the sick and poor. He received them all as his brothers and sisters. He even felt the sun, moon, animals, earth and stars as his brothers and sisters.

The encountering and dialogue with the Lord had changed Francis’ life, from the selfish and partying young man to a person fully focused to God and others with full compassion. Loving God with all his heart, soul, strength and mind, and loving the neighbors as himself was truly manifested in St. Francis of Assisi. The act of mercy became his identity. His life was dedicated to work of mercy. All his feeling, thought, wish, speech and action represented Lord’s mercy to all people including the universe and its content.

As the disciples of the Lord, we are also invited to encounter and have dialogue with Him. Deep encountering with the Lord brings inner joy. The joy overflows so deep that it changes our lives and brings us to the act of compassion. Let us come, encounter and speak with Jesus the Lord. Open our heart for His presence and let ourselves be changed and guided by the God’s love.

Mission: Let us be responsible and develop the living faith by practising the mercy and compassion in our daily life. (NW)

JOYFUL MYSTERIES

  1. The Annunciation of the Angel to Mary
“Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.” (Luke 1:28b,30b-31)

Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we come before You, asking for Your grace on our lives, our future, especially for our continent we are living in, the Continent of Asia. Send Your angels as You sent the Angel Gabriel to proclaim the good news of the birth of Your Son to Mother Mary. Enable us to be always grateful for the life You have granted and to rejoice in carrying out the mission that You give to each of us, so that we can be the witnesses of Your joyful tidings, like the Angel Gabriel. May Your joy fill the earth. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray especially for the Australia Continent and Oceania. When Mary visited Elizabeth, she came with love and good news about the coming of the Savior. The meeting eventually became the blessing for both babies in their wombs, and also for the coming mother. We also hope that You would come to visit your people in the Oceania-Australia Continent. Fill the heart of Your people in this continent with hope, so they can give strength and share the good news to each other, especially during the pandemic. And may Your people in this continent be able to take care of each other, as You have always been protecting us. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.
