Mission: To Light The Lamp In Life

“Gird your loins and light your lamps.”
(Luk. 12:35)

Apostolic Letter Patris Corde: The saints help all the faithful “to strive for the holiness and the perfection of their particular state of life.” Their lives are concrete proof that it is possible to put the Gospel into practice.

Jesus uses two symbols in referring to the readiness of a good servant: “girded loins” and “the bright lamps”. In ancient time men and women wore robes as their daily clothing. So did the servants. The difference was in the fabric quality and the beauty of the robe. A wealthy man or religious leader would wear the robe of soft, beautiful and expensive fabric. Whereas a servant just wore an ordinary robe made of inferior and cheap fabric.

A servant would keep his loins girded during working. Girded loins means “readiness”. It is not an accessory to fashion. Girded loins will ease the movement in working. The tie is not only a tool but also a sign that he is always in vigilant state in doing this job.

The burning lamp indicates the bright and alive condition of the surroundings. Where there is life, there is vigilance and movement, not a moment for resting (negligent) or being silent. In general, lamps will be switched off when we sleep. It is easier for us to fall asleep in darkness. It is scientifically explained that the melatonin in the body will increase in darkness. Melatonin will send message to the brain to fall asleep.

Lamp is also a symbol of the light of life. Someone who keeps his lamp burning is the one who keep his life shining. By walking beneath the light, he will not get lost in darkness.

Jesus advises His disciples and all of us to be vigilant, “Gird your loins and light your lamps.” (Luke 12:35). We must not be complacent and tempted by worldly life: enjoyment, authority, wealth, popularity, etc. We must always remember our calling to be a Christian, to be the servant of the Master.

As the parable told by Luke, the Evangelist, the Lord send us to dwell this world during His temporary absence, just like the master who is visiting a wedding party. We must know our role in the world and keep working while waiting for the Master’s return. The Master would return any time and knock the door.

This analogy is like death that can come any time. If we are always busy with worldly matters which we consider as more important than the Lord, then we will be complacent, we will be sleeping when He knocks the door of our life. We sleep with ungirded loin and no light, sleep in the dark.

To keep our lamp burning, we have to live the Gospel as the main source of light in life. Gospel is not just a story or history that could be read once, but it has be our inspiration and strength that will be lived in our daily life. Eventually the Gospel will lead us to holiness and perfection of life as His good servants. When the moment comes where He knocks, we will be ready to welcome Him and enjoy the eternal feast with Him (cf. Luke. 12:37).

Mission: Christian calling invites us to be vigilant, keep the lamp burning and live the Gospel, the source of living light. (BIL)

For Indonesian Churches intention:
Clean water: May we be more wise in using the clean water. We pray…

Special Intention for the year of St. Joseph:
Give us an open heart, like St. Joseph, so we may love Mother Mary and her Son for the success of “missio” or mission of restoring human love in responding Father’s mercy. We pray…

MISSIONARY ROSARY PRAYER

SORROWFUL MYSTERIES

  1. The Agony of Jesus in the Garden
“O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” (Matt. 26:39)

Prayer is intended for the continent of Asia (yellow bead)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray for our people living in the continent of Asia, who have experienced many problems during this pandemic. Many fall into sadness, despair and are unable to face the loss of job, property or the beloved one. Just as Jesus was willing to surrender and pray to You near His death, grant us the grace of faith and self surrender to everyone in our continent. Enable us to realize that in the time of trials like this, we have to remember to surrender to You and persevere in prayer, so that our hope and faith can remain firm and alerted.
We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amin.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The Scourging of Jesus at the pillar
“They smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him. And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from Him, and put his own clothes on him.” (Mark 15:19-20a)

Prayer is intended for the continent of Australia and Oceania (blue beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray for your people in the continent of Oceania-Australia. May You give strength and comfort to those who are persecuted for their faith in You. Despite of being scourged, mocked, spat on, beaten, even stripped naked, He just kept silent, no repaying the evil with evil, because of the great love in Him. May this example be able to be copied by every one who experiences suffering and injustice from their fellow people. And may You grant every human being with the heart of mercy, so they can treat each other with love, respect and justice. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The Crowning with Thorns
“They platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head. And began to salute him, Hail King of the Jews!” (Mark 15:17-18)

Prayer is intended for the Continent of Europe (white beads)
Father, with Mary, Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray for your people in the continent of Europe. Sometimes sufferings and traumatic experiences become an obstacle to human’s faith to keep on believing that You are always with them and their lives. Jesus, Your Son, is not missed from the suffering caused by humans, despite he possesses the status of the Son of the King. Learning from Him, may all the people in the continent of Europe are enabled to survive from the suffering and traumatic events that they have to pass while remaining firm in their faith, believing that You will never abandon your People. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The Carrying of the Cross
“And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha.” (John 19:16b)

Prayer is intended for the continent of America (red beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray for your people in the continent of America. May they be enabled to faithfully carry the cross of life in the world. Cross is sometimes rejected and avoided. We, the humans, tend to find the happiness, prosperity and eternity, instead of suffering, adversity and death. Jesus Himself carried His cross in faith and obedience for He believed and accepted all Your will. May the people of America who believe in Christ be ready to face the cross, suffering and death, accepting the cross as inseparable part of the identity as a Christian. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!

  1. The Crucifixion and death of Jesus
“And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father into thy hands I comment my spririt; and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” (Luke 23:46)

Prayer is intended for the continent of Africa (green beads)
Father, with Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all nations, we pray for your people in the continent of Africa. Lately many deaths happened caused by Covid-19 pandemic. Death is often seen not only as a loss but also a bad incident. Humans are attached too tightly to their lives and the possessions, that they become stuttered when it’s time for letting go and returning all the possessions to You, the Owner of Life. May You enable Your people in the continent of Africa especially those who suffer from the loss of their closed ones, to accept the death and remember that eternal life You promises is not from the world, but in heaven in our next life. We believe that life is not destroyed by death, but it is transformed. We ask this through the intercession of Lord Christ and our Savior. Amen.

Mary Mother of Evangelization, Mother of all Nations, pray and protect us, your children!
