Mission: Showing God’s Love

“Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”
(Luk. 13:30)

Apostolic Letter Patris Corde: Saint Joseph reminds us that those who appear hidden or in the shadows can play an incomparable role in the history of salvation.

In this competitive time, most people are always competing to be the best, the first, the greatest, the most famous and successful. Assessment tends to be focused on the outer appearance. Human beings are competing to be seen, to be the center of attention and applause for their intelligence, ability and charm, no matter it is real or fake. Charm can be created, just like the face covered by make-up. Make-up is important as popularity can be achieved by those who are able to appear attractive and charming.

Such pattern of life could drag human into worldly life and erode important value (virtue). People are easily obsessed by worldly illusion on wealth, success, power, popularity and keep on requiring self admission and compliment. Each of them are busy pursuing self satisfaction and dream, forgetting the true identity of God’s creatures and the given calling.

For the world, the fastest is the first and the best. But for the Lord, the first will be the last, and the last will be the first. The theories of human and God are contradictory. In human formula and calculation there is certainty in accordance with the prevailing conditions. For the Lord, there is no guarantee or certainty, humans are free to plan the way, but the Lord directs the steps. All is determined by Lord’s mercy, not by human’s consideration on service, effort and achievement. If so, why do we keep pursuing the vanity?

We are used to pursuing target and counting the achievement. But the Lord counter all humans’ strategies and ingenuity. Why? Because it is not what the Lord wants from humans. Lord does not need the proof on our greatness. He creates us from ash, something worthless. He puts the ability and capability inside us. If we feel our life is perfect, it is because of God’s will and grace. If His grace is gone, we will lose all our property at once, nothing left.

God’s way of thinking is different from human. Are we able understand His mind? Perhaps yes, if only we want to try, first by removing our pride, and admit His presence as God the Almighty Creator, placing Him above all. We remind ourselves as the creation, the children of God. What does God want from us? He wants to use our life to glorify Him. It can be done only if we are willing to stop promoting ourselves and pursuing the mortal power and popularity. We must learn to bow ourselves and heart, just like St. Joseph, who was unnoticed but remained patient in doing his tasks in the world, to be one of the most important figures in the history of salvation.

Mission: God’s mind is different from humans, who always want to be the first, famous, successful, etc. Yet God would counter the mind of humans. We learn to understand God’s mind, because God will direct the steps. (BIL)
